How Licensing Works
The Meta-Update utility is licensed in two ways:
The License Server Query Tool can get this information for you. See Downloads for required dlls.
Any workstation or server can run Meta-Update as long as a valid license key exists on the server where the form is being updated, in the command file being run, or in environment variables.
For high performance applications where there are repeated invocations of Meta-Update, the License key may be specified in an environment variable or in the command file itself.
The ARS server name or server alias, as defined in the ar.conf configuration file, is used to authenticate a single server License key. If the server is unnamed, the short host name is used instead. The Server Query Tool may be used on an NT workstation to determine the name of the server.
For site licensing, the ARS reported full host name is checked against the IP stack (using a gethostbyname call) and the licensed domain name is matched against the true host name. Stand-alone machines that do not return a domain name cannot be licensed through the site licensing facility.
All licenses carry a date, support options, the highest release that may be freely upgraded to. These are defined by the sale of the product to a customer. Any license, Site or Server, can be granted on a temporary basis using this mechanism.
- on a server-by-server basis by matching the Remedy Server host name alias,
- on a site basis, by matching the domain name of the ARS server.

Licensing
Meta-Update may be downloaded from this site. You will need a license key to run it.
To obtain a license key, you need to know the "Host ID", "Server Name", and "Short Host Name" as reported by the ARS server. The License Server Query Tool can get this information for you. See Downloads for required dlls.

Trials
You will need a license key to run Meta-Update. You may obtain a free 30-day key with no restrictions on use.
For evaluation purposes, a free, single server, 30 day license, can be emailed to you.
Trials of Meta-Update are fully functional, unrestricted versions of the program.
